Overview

The UNI-T Inspector Series brings the imaging capability of a thermography lab into a single 5-inch handheld instrument. A 640×512 radiometric detector at 0.66mrad IFOV resolves temperature variation across switchgear panels, motor housings, transformer oil-fill levels, and PCB hotspots without the cooled-detector cost or the workflow overhead of a dedicated thermography rig. Super-resolution synthesizes a 1280×1024 output from the native detector — useful when the source image needs to read clearly in a report figure or annotation panel.

Continuous autofocus, contrast / semi-auto AF, and laser-assisted focus combine to keep the target in focus across the working range — useful when moving down a substation aisle inspecting bus connections, or stepping in and out of an MCC panel. The Inspector Series accepts six interchangeable lenses covering field-of-view from 7° tele to 46° wide, with a High-Temperature lens that extends measurement to 1000°C – 2200°C for foundry, refractory, kiln, and induction-heating work.

A 16-point analyzer with T-select, ROI emissivity correction, Smart Meter (auto-recognition of gauges and meters in the visual channel), AI Voice annotation, dual-channel imaging, and OTA firmware updates round out the Inspector Series feature set. The instrument ships with PC + mobile analysis software included — no subscription, no per-seat license. Field workflow connects via Wi-Fi live streaming, Bluetooth, HDMI display extension, and Type-C USB.

This is the X configuration. The UTi760X ships with the conventional standard lens and supports the standard-family lens lineup (Wide-angle, Tele, Ultra-Tele, Macro). For 1000°C – 2200°C measurement, the UTi760XH configuration is required — the High-Temperature lens is not available for X bodies. See Lens Configuration below.

Detailed Features

6-Lens System

The Inspector Series accepts six interchangeable lenses: Standard, Wide-angle, Tele, Ultra-Tele, High-Temperature, and Macro. Each lens has its own focal length, aperture, FOV, IFOV, and minimum imaging distance. Lens recognition is automatic — the imager detects the installed lens by ID and applies the correct calibration table without operator input. Wide-angle (46°×34°) for room-scale inspection. Tele (14.6°×10.9°) and Ultra-Tele (7.2°×5.5°) for transmission-line and overhead-substation work where access is restricted. Macro (24~42mm minimum imaging distance) for PCB component-level analysis.

5-Mode Focus System

Continuous AF keeps the target in focus as you move toward or away from it — useful when sweeping a row of panels or working down a conveyor line. Semi-Auto Focus (760X / 760XH) or Contrast AF (740X / 740XH) gives a single confirmation press to lock focus on the framed target. Laser-Assisted Focus uses the integrated rangefinder to compute distance and drive the focus motor — fast and accurate for hard-to-focus low-contrast targets. Touch AF lets you tap any point in the live image to focus there. Manual focus is available for thermographers who prefer it for specific workflows (e.g., consistent through-glass measurement). Focusing time is under 2 seconds across all modes.

High-Accuracy Temperature Measurement

Standard-lens accuracy is ±1.0°C / ±1.0% in the 0°C – 120°C range, ±1.5°C / ±1.5% in the 20°C – 600°C range, and ±1.5% in the 500°C – 1200°C range (whichever is greater, at 25°C ambient). With the High-Temperature lens, accuracy is ±1.5% across 1000°C – 2200°C. ROI emissivity correction lets you assign per-region emissivity for mixed-material targets — necessary when a single frame contains rough metal, painted metal, and unpainted insulator surfaces, each of which has a different effective emissivity.

Level & Span Control

Auto, Manual, and Touch level/span modes are selectable in the live image. Auto adjusts to the scene continuously; Manual lets you lock the temperature range to a fixed window for consistent frame-to-frame comparison (essential for documentation series); Touch lets you tap the screen to set the level/span to the temperature at the touch point. The 16-point analyzer with T-select supports point, line, rectangle, and circle ROIs — up to 16 of each — with the T-select function letting you recall any saved ROI's temperature data as the active reading.

AI Voice + Smart Meter + Voice Annotation

AI Voice accepts spoken commands for capture, mode switching, palette change, and analyzer placement — useful when the imager is mounted on a tripod or held at arm's length where touch operation is impractical. Smart Meter scans the visual channel and automatically extracts readings from analog gauges, digital meters, and dial indicators, embedding the recognized value as metadata on the thermal image. Voice Annotation records audio notes attached to each frame — saved alongside the radiometric JPG, available in the analysis software and exported reports.

Imaging Modes — T-Mix, Dual-Channel, Fusion, PIP

T-Mix is UNI-T's blended overlay mode that lays the thermal layer over the visual layer with adjustable transparency — clearer than traditional Fusion for low-contrast targets where the visible-light context anchors interpretation. Dual-channel imaging records the thermal and visual streams simultaneously as separate radiometric video files, letting downstream analysis compare frame-by-frame. PIP places a thermal inset over a visual base image (or vice versa). Standard Fusion remains available for users who prefer it.

Connectivity + Storage

Wi-Fi live streaming pushes the active image to a paired phone or laptop, supporting remote viewing and remote capture. Bluetooth pairs with the UNI-T Thermal mobile app for field analysis and report generation. HDMI display extension drives a monitor for training, presentation, or supervisory review (Micro HDMI at the instrument; standard HDMI at the display). Built-in 128GB storage plus SD expansion handles long inspection sessions. Image format is radiometric JPG (each saved image carries the full temperature matrix, recoverable in PC analysis software). Video format is MP4 plus UIR (UNI-T's radiometric video container).

Battery + Charging

The UT-M25 battery pack is a 7.2V / 5000mAh detachable Li-ion unit, providing ≥5 hours continuous operation. Charging is by Type-C direct (with the battery in the instrument) or by independent charger (battery removed). Either method recovers to 90% in 2.5 hours, supporting hot-swap workflows on extended inspections.

OTA Firmware Upgrade + PC/APP Software

Firmware updates download over Wi-Fi when available. New features added post-purchase (new palettes, new analyzer modes, new AI Voice commands, refinements to emissivity tables) deploy without service-center intervention. PC analysis software and mobile APP are included — no subscription, no per-seat license, no time-limited evaluation. Both support radiometric image analysis, report generation, and project organization.

Lens Configuration — X vs XH

The Inspector Series ships in two factory-build configurations that share the same hardware platform and differ in which lens is included and which lens lineup the body supports:

  • X configuration (UTi740X / UTi760X): Ships with the conventional standard lens. The body is calibrated for the standard-family lenses — Wide-angle, Tele, Ultra-Tele, and Macro can all be added as accessories. The High-Temperature lens is not available for X bodies, because the high-temp calibration table is not loaded at the factory. For 1000°C – 2200°C measurement, the XH configuration is required.
  • XH configuration (UTi740XH / UTi760XH): Ships with the High-Temperature lens, factory-calibrated and pre-paired with the body. The XH supports the full lens lineup — Standard, Wide-angle, Tele, Ultra-Tele, High-Temperature, and Macro — because both calibration tables are loaded at the factory. Buyers who need both high-temp (refractory, foundry, induction) AND general-purpose imaging (electrical, mechanical, building) on the same body should choose XH and add the Standard lens as an accessory.

The two configurations are not interchangeable in the field — calibration is a factory operation. Choose the configuration that matches your primary inspection workload; the lens accessories you'd typically add are listed below in the Compatible Lens System.

Choosing Your Model — Inspector Series

The Inspector Series spans four factory-build configurations across two IR resolutions. The 740 platform delivers 400×300 detector resolution; the 760 platform delivers 640×512. Each platform ships in an X configuration (conventional lens, -20°C to 1200°C native range, calibrated for the standard lens family) and an XH configuration (high-temperature lens factory-included, 1000°C to 2200°C native range, factory-calibrated for the full lens lineup including standard-family lenses as accessories). Sampling rate, NETD, 5″ touch display, AI voice commands, 5-mode autofocus, and the rest of the platform are identical across all four models.

Detailed Specifications

Full specifications are rendered below from the product specification table. The Lens & Focus and Temperature Measurement sections show the configuration-specific differences between X and XH.

Applications

Substation + Power Tower Inspection

Long-distance bus connection and transmission-line hotspot survey. Tele and Ultra-Tele lenses extend safe working distance; LRF + laser-assisted focus delivers clear imaging at 50m. Radiometric JPG output supports compliance reporting and trend tracking across periodic inspections.

Electrical Equipment + Switchgear

MCC connections, breakers, contactor stacks, and bus-tie joints. The 640×512 detector resolves individual phase imbalance and developing high-resistance connections at panel-distance working ranges. The 16-point analyzer with T-select supports inspection-checklist workflows — preset ROIs recalled per asset record.

PCB R&D + Component-Level Thermography

The Macro lens supports component-level analysis with a minimum imaging distance in the 20~42mm range (configuration dependent). ROI emissivity correction handles the mixed-material reality of populated PCBs — solder mask, copper pour, ceramic-package ICs, and plated through-holes each carry different effective emissivities. T-Mix overlay preserves the visible-channel reference markings during analysis.

Pipeline + Process Inspection

Steam line insulation breaches, valve packing leaks, refractory wall scanning up to 1200°C. Wi-Fi live streaming supports two-person inspection workflows where one operator positions the imager and a second reviews the image stream on a tablet or phone. For target temperatures above 1200°C, the XH configuration adds the High-Temperature lens with 1000°C – 2200°C measurement capability.
